any suggestions...

we have trouble with logan wearing any kind of helmet...baseball helmet, bike helmet, etc. because he has bilateral implants. he can usually wear a helmet, with just one implant on, but both him and I prefer that he wear both (especially outside when he is riding his bike). have any of you found a solution to doing this? do you have to do your own "maintenance" on the helmet and maybe cut some of the padding out where the coil is? any suggestions?

Gage prefers no ci's when riding his four wheeler, he couldn't hear much w/that running anyway but have you googled under armour (what football players wear under their helmets) to see if that would help hold them on? Not sure if it would work since is sounds like your issue is needing more room....?

For now, Tayten uses the Cars helmet from Wal-Mart and it works well with no adjustments. As he gets older, we'll need to find something safer.

Ideas: Adjustable helmet using the nifty headband you purchased for soccer underneath, skull cap, tennis bandana, regular bandana, or Buff headwear.

I loved the big brother story - too sweet! Tayten's buddy, 12 yr old Lexi, wears her Lebron James headband daily, so we had no trouble getting Tayten to wear one to keep his CIs in place when active.

Usually the inside of a helmet is mostly foam. I've seen people carve a spot out for their CI headpiece to fit. If the ear pieces are a problem maybe shoulder-worn would help.

(My word verification thing below is: earpher. funny :))

Hello, I have one implant but as I ride horses competively I am not allowed to make any adjustments to the helmet since it would fail the safety standards but they did add on paddings in the helmet (took alot of adjustments but they were very patient) in the end i have very comfortable but safe helmet ($$$ every 6 or so months!!). I did same with ski helmet myself (this is purely that i am frightened of breaking my CI as i never wore one until i was implanted!) and wore Buff head gear to keep it on I found that cutting paddings internally doesn't work since when the helmet moves the coil falls off.

My advice would be get hat a little big perhaps one size up with cis on and put sticky foam paddings around it until it is secure. or thick soft beanie/headband.

Hi, your son is precious. I love his smile. I have a 6 year old boy, with a CI. Just wondering where did you get his superman and batman stickers for his implant? My son would love it. Does he wear a medical ID bracelet? If so, do you have a name of a good source. That would be helpful.

I'm an audiologist and I've been surfing around the internet to find the latest in CI retention ideas that parents have come up with to help some of my families. I stumbled on this blog entry, and I just wanted to tell you that Hearing Pocket toyed with the idea of creating a CI-compatible bike helmet after the owner's daughter fell off her bike and scratched up her face. They weren't sure if there was a market for it. There are a lot of blog entries on this site though about this problem: http://hearingpocket.wordpress.com/2007/06/05/bike-helmets-for-cochlear-implant/
