Duh, Mom...

As we were walking to pick my older son up from school today, I heard a bird "caw-ing" high up in a tree. I stopped and said to Logan (as we always do with new or interesting sounds), "Logan, Do you hear that?" He continued to walk, shrugged his shoulders and said, "Yeah, Mom. Bird." It was if he was saying, "So what, it's just a bird. I hear them all the time."

I realized then, how natural environmental sounds are becoming to him, just as they are to you and me. I loved how a simple moment, became so extraordinary today.

The simple sound of rain...

Before having a child with deafness I never stopped to listen to the rain. I find that that is true with many sounds around me. I am grateful for the small and simple things that I am able to experience through Logan.
Yesterday it rained pretty heavily for about an hour. We sat outside and listened as each drop hit the ground. We walked down to the retention basin on our street and listened as the frogs croaked in the rising water. The sound of live frogs was something Logan had never heard before--again, small and simple things...

Simple Pleasures...

One of Logan's favorite things to do now is dance to music. He gets so excited when he hears it. His signature move? Rolling his arms! :)

We Love Sound Bingo

I bought this game when Logan was 6 months old and have been waiting until he would be able to play it. My older son really loved it when he was Logan's age. We pulled it out last week and were amazed at the sounds that Logan recognized, some of which he has never actually heard. It has quickly become his favorite game and asks to play it any chance he gets. Even after watching him play it over and over again I still love to watch him get so excited when he hears a sound...he points to his ear and opens his mouth wide. So fun!
